English Cooking Verbs, Definition and Example Sentences
There are many cooking verbs in English. These are very often encountered in daily life. Now let’s learn what they are.
Grill
to cook on a metal frame over fire.
Example: don’t like grilled fish,let alone raw fish.
Grate
to cut into all pieces by rubbing it against a special apparatus.
Example: It’s easier to grate a pumpkin than it is to cut it into small pieces.
Add
join something else to increase its size, number or amount.

to take hold of something

Blend
a mix of different things
Example: You can blend milk, fruit juice, and ice cream to make a smoothie.

to cook or something with in water that is boiling.
Example: When water boils over it comes out of the saucepan, you must be careful!
Whisk
to take something somewhere else quickly
Example: She’s whisking some batter to make a cake.
Drain
remove the liquid from something liquid flows away or out of it
Example: A colander is useful when you need to drain spagetti or wash vegetable and fruit.
Cut
to use a sharp tool like a knife to divide something.
Example: This birthday cake cutter cuts heart-shaped cake.
Cook
prepare it to be eaten by heating it in a speacial way
Example: How do you cook spagetti? Most people use a small pot like this one.
Squeeze
to apply pressure to in order to extract juice, sap, or the like
Example: My little daughter tried to squeeze the orange
Bake
to make cook, like bread and cake by preparing a dough or something.
Example: A pancake pan is used for baking pancakes.
Roast
to cook food or something in an oven or over a fire.
Example; They’re roasting marshmello over a campfire.
Fry
to cook food in fat or oil.
Example; Sandra is frying an egg.
Slice
a thin piece of food that is cut from something bigger.
Example; Watch out for your thumbs when slicing carrot.
Barbeque
a metal frame on food cooked outdoors over fire.
Example; This big oven can be used for barbequing things garden.
Prepare
to make something ready
Example: They’re preparing some fruit trays for a party.
Dice
to cut into small cubes
Example: Let’s dice the potatoes
Carve
to cut into slices or pieces, as a roast of meat
Example: We always serve meats by carving to our customers?
Sprinkle
to gently drop small pieces of something over a surface
Example: Before you roll out dough, you sprinkle flour on the rolling pin so the dough will not stick to it.
Whip
to move quickly
Example: If you continue to whip the whisk like that, probably the cake dough will leap around.
