Adjectives are used to define the noun.

Comparative Adjectives

We use comparative adjectives to show change or to make comparisons.

  • I’m feeling healthier now.

When to compare one thing with another, can be use “than” after the adjectives.

Rules of Use of Single Syllable (Short) Adjectives

We can make comparisons by adding “-er” to short adjectives and add “-est“.

If an adjective ends in –e, can be added –r or –st.

Some examples;

  • Nice-nicer(comparative) – nicest(superlative)

If an adjective ends in a vowel and a consonant, can be double the consonant.

If an adjective ends in a consonant and –y, can be added –y to –i and add –er or –est.

Rules of Use of Two or More Syllable Adjectives

More and most use to make comparatives and superlatives for most two syllable adjectives and for all adjectives with three or more syllables.
