Let’s take a look at what happens when “ever” is added to these words. When the word “ever” is added, the meaning of “every” is added to the word. In the most basic sense, these words are used to add meanings to the sentence such as “no matter what happened”, “no matter what is done”, “no matter which one is”, “no matter who it is”. Let’s quickly look at the meanings of words;
Whatever you do, don’t forget to lock the door. ” or “It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, don’t forget to lock the door. ”
Here, “whatever” adds the meaning of “it doesn’t matter what happened” to the sentence. Apart from this use, this word can be used to highlight questions, especially in British English. We can better show what we mean by examples. For example; “Whatever will you do?” The question is “What will you do?” say. But this way, “Whatever will you do?” means “What will you do?” It is more emphasized than saying, “What are you going to do?” rather I was wondering “What are you going to do?” It means something. Apart from that, words like whatever, whenever, wherever, however are also used when stating that it is not clear. I can show this better through examples.
For example, let’s say, “Should send you all the files or the important ones?” In response to the question “Whatever you want.” you said. In this case, “Whatever you want.” You are saying and you are not clear. Briefly, “It depends on you.” you are saying.
